"A Thankful Heart is a Happy Heart!"

How To Meditate: Journey Beyond Thought by Rev. Dennis B. Shipman

The Power of Thankfulness and Gratitude

Written by Rev. Dennis Shipman (c) 2016
You know how wonderful you feel when someone says a sincere “Thank You” for an act of kindness you’ve done for them. It’s no different with God. An act of kindness is an expression of your love, and God’s love is always flowing to us in many different ways. We just have to train our minds and hearts to recognize God’s blessings of abundance that flow to us.

"When I started counting my blessings, my whole life turned around.” -- American musician, country singer, songwriter Willie Nelson

Gratitude is the quality of being thankful, and a readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness. Gratitude acknowledges the blessings of the giver, and opens our hearts to receive more blessings from God through any source. Gratitude is the oil that keeps life moving on a happy track.

"The roots of all goodness lie in the soil of appreciation for goodness.” -- Dalai Lama

God knows how busy we are in our daily lives, but the key is not to forget God – the Source and Giver of All Life. We have the power to be creative and design ingenious ways to remember God and all the wonderful blessings that we receive from Source.

"Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn't learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn't learn a little, at least we didn't get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn't die; so, let us all be thankful." -- Buddha

Here’s a few tips that will keep you in the pink and on the happy track.

God is just a thought away! Whenever you have some downtime during your day, train you mind to think of God and say “thank you” for a blessing that you’ve received either that day or sometime during your life. It doesn’t matter how big or small you feel the blessing is, God will be pleased to accept your gracious thank you.

"Cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you, and to give thanks continuously. And because all things have contributed to your advancement, you should include all things in your gratitude.” -- Ralph Waldo Emerson, American writer

Say your gratitude prayers when you are driving in your car on the city streets or highway. If you use public transportation, this is an excellent time to remember all the reasons why you are thankful.

"Acknowledging the good that you already have in your life is the foundation for all abundance." -- Eckhart Tolle, author “The Power of Now!”

If you walk for exercise or go hiking or ride a bicycle or sit on a part bench admiring the beauty of nature, these are perfect times to remember God and say “thank you” for all the blessings that have come and are coming into your life.

"Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough." -- Oprah Winfrey, successful TV celebrity

Any time is the best time to say thank you to God, but one of the less stressful times is when you’re not so busy. Sit in your easy chair and go inward. Close your eyes and look into the mind’s eye (between the eyebrows) and say mentally with a sincere heart, “thank you, God.” As you become more proficient at this practice, you will find that even during your busy work day, you can train your mind to remember God and to say a quick “thank you.”

"You cannot do a kindness too soon because you never know how soon it will be too late." -- Ralph Waldo Emerson, American writer

It is most assuredly possible to make gratitude a positive habit that reaps miracles in your life. Remember! God is only a thought away! You can change your life for the better when you offer gratitude to God. Train your mind to see and remember the blessings you’ve received in your life, and when you do recognize them, say a sincere, “Thank you, God, for sending this blessing to me.”

"There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.” -- Albert Einstein, physicist, Noble prize winner
